C Chips

Playing in casinos is never without colored chips. The chips belong to what is called tokens. There are two types of tokens commonly in used in casinos.

One is the chip of various colors and denominations. These chips are used for table games such as blackjack. White chips represent the one-dollar denomination. For $2.50 denomination, the chip color is pink and is primarily used in blackjack. For $5 the color is red. Blue chips are for $ 10. For $20 the color is yellow. Green represents $25. Black is for $100. Purple is for $500. Oversized orange chips are for $1000. In casinos in Nevada there are no oversized chips.

The other token is the metal token coins used in slot machines. Metal token coins are similar to the tokens used in arcade games.

To get tokens, one must exchange money for them. In a casino one exchanges one's money for tokens at the casino cage for table games. For the metal token coin, one gets them at the cashier stations. One can reversibly exchange these tokens at the places one had them changed in the beginning. When outside the casino, these chips or metal coins have no value. There are however casinos in Las Vegas that will honor them. But usually, tokens from one casino cannot be used in another casino.

Casinos have resigned to using these tokens to make counterfeiting difficult for those attempting to. It has also been found to be more of convenience than the currency. For cashiers, it is easier to count than paper money and coins with its regularity and shape. For pit bosses, the amount paid is verified easily and there is less likelihood the dealer hands over the wrong amount.

Most of these chips are made of clay compressed molded clay to be exact. But not a hundred per cent clay there are some other durable materials added. The added material is still earthen: sand, chalk. The way that this clay is made into chips is a trade secret that is both expensive to mimic and consumes a lot of time. There is little variation among manufacturers. The edge spots of the chips are just painted and not actual grooves.

In some chips of varying color, the clay of a certain area is removed and then replaced with clay of different color by hand. And because they are called compressed molded chips, the chips are placed under high pressure and temperature of around 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

Prior to the compression, the inlay is set, the inlay is the printed graphics seen on the chips. The graphics are printed on paper then protected with plastic film. In such way, the graphics cannot be peeled without destroying the chip for during the molding it has been firmly attached.

To ensure security, each casino has its own distinguished chips. Each chip in the gaming arena had to be backed up with ample amount of money. And to make it hard for the counterfeiters, graphics on chips are of high photographic resolution. Even the chip edge is distinct from one casino the next.

Staffs are highly trained in picking up inappropriate chips. One casino even replaces chips once in a while to catch those with fakes.

In tournaments, casino management use chips that are cheap and of different color than the one used in normal gaming. The graphic design is simple. The case is different in world tournament where chips are of high quality.
